A Brief About Grubhub

How It All Started?

Mike Evans and Matt Maloney founded Grubhub in 2004. The two were roommates at the University of Illinois, where they studied computer science.

The pair decided to start their own business after a friend could not find food delivery options on a pizza-ordering website. They thought it would be helpful if there was a single site where every restaurant was listed with all of its delivery information, including which service they used. Evans and Maloney knew they could build the app and website themselves, but they needed funding.

They won a $100,000 investment on ABC's Shark Tank precursor, The Benefactor. They used the money to build an online ordering platform that would allow users to place orders directly through the Grubhub website or app.

What Makes Grubhub's Investor Presentation So Convincing?

The pitch deck is a staple of the modern age. Firms use them to pitch to potential investors, and entrepreneurs use them to raise money for their startups.

The exciting thing about this deck is that it isn't just a bunch of slides with text and bullet points. Instead, it's a piece of persuasive content that convinces you to believe what the company wants you to believe: That food delivery will be huge and that Grubhub is the company to make it happen.

One of the things that makes this presentation so effective is that it breaks down complex information into easily digestible bits. This makes it easy for investors to follow along, even those who aren't closely familiar with the food delivery industry.

The deck is written in a friendly, easy-to-read tone with lots of examples and photos. The text is broken up by large, high-quality images that help illustrate the point at hand. This makes the deck very accessible to its target audience — potential investors who may not be incredibly familiar with online food ordering.
