Therefore, Peloton is much more than a company that sells exercise equipment, and it's the best brand ambassador for fitness enthusiasts. 

 

So far, Peloton has Sold Approx. 400,000 Bikes.

 

The Peloton is Changing the Way the World Workout.

 

A Brief History of Peloton Along With Its Funding Details 

 

Widely known as a "Netflix of Fitness," Peloton is an exercise bike startup that provides fitness freaks the freedom to enjoy supervised workout sessions without stepping into the gym. 

 

The peloton was launched in 2012 and created a lot of buzz with its cult-like campaigns that motivated people to get back in shape. 

 

In 2012, John Foley — a former Barnes & Noble e-commerce executive — discovered that instructor-led workout sessions are more beneficial than sole-led gym trips. 

 

The idea of bringing the best fitness trainer to his home transformed into advanced exercise bikes manufactured by Peloton. 

 

My wife and I love fitness, but like most aging couples with kids, it gets harder to get to the gym, Foley said. As soon as we had kids, our lives got busier, and I said, I think I can build a technology platform that will allow you to consume these wonderful fitness classes from the convenience of your home and we could hire the best instructors and it could on your time, your schedule and overtime, at a better value.

 

The Peloton Journey

 

The entire 2012 year was spent on driving funds for his idea. And, indeed Foley achieved that as he succeeded in closing a $3.5 Million Through Series A Round  in addition to that $400k From Initial Seed. 

 

The prototype of the first bike was designed & manufactured in 2013. 

 

Although the bike was far from being the best nowadays, the models in the kickstart video stole the show. They used the video to gain brand awareness and generate $307,000.

 

The most significant milestone they bagged initially was in April 2014, when they Collected $10.5 Million Through the Series B Round. 

 

The money was invested in modifying their fitness bike to be ready for their end-users.

 

Initially, the sales of Peloton bikes were slow but later obtained momentum as the brand gained in popularity. 

 

A year later, Peloton Raised $30 Million Through Series C Funding to launch brick-and-mortar retail outlets and expedite the production of its fitness bikes. 

 

Now, the challenge was to meet the soaring orders and deliver bikes right at the doorstep of their customers. 

 

With this in mind, Peloton hired a squad of delivery men for Fast and Cost-Effective Deliveries.

 

By the end of 2015, Peloton was able to Raise $75 Million with the Prospect of Expanding Its Software Engineering Team.

 

The peloton has launched live and on-demand fitness classes at monthly subscriptions in recent years.

 

Meanwhile, Peloton raised another $325 million through various funding rounds to fuel its product growth.

 

It is being speculated that the Company Will Go Public in the Next Few Years.

Roadblocks on Peloton's Impressive Journey

The Peloton had a pretty hard time convincing angel investors to fund its $2,000 Internet-Connected Exercise Bikes venture. 

 

Also, venture capitalists didn't have much faith in Foley's concept.

 

In the plans that I pitched to the investors ... I said, 'I am going to take over the world, and for the first three years, they said, 'Sure you are, no thanks.' The institutional investors wouldn't give me money, Foley said.

 

In the first three years, Foley and his team were turned down by most seed investors.  

 

It's been hard; there are so few investors who can get their brain around how unique what we are doing is," Foley said. It's been a head-scratcher as to why they haven't been rushing to put capital into the category.

 

Foley had confidence in his idea and later persuaded investors to drive funds to realize his dream project despite all this.
