We spend our weekends binge watching our favorite shows. (Well I do!). No matter, how many times I have watched the same show, it just never gets old. They are not just entertaining. They teach you stuff at times. Yes. So I have collected a few of the TV fictional characters from our all-time favorite shows which surely give us some useful insights about our own PowerPoint Presentations.

Let’s get enlightened.

1) Michael Scofield: He is one exceptionally intelligent guy. This detail nazi from Prison Break plans his and brother’s escape from the prison. What is so exceptionally great about that? He tattoos his plan and posts escape plan on his body. Not just this, he always had a backup plan in case of possible foul ups.

Presentation tip from Michael Scofield: Plan everything in detail. Which slides you want in your presentation, what content you want to add to it, is content alright? Ask these basic questions to yourself and then make an outline of your presentation. Search for designs, backgrounds that would go with the idea of your presentation. How will you start and how will you end? Also, if there is a technical issue, do you have a backup plan? So first and foremost step is to plan everything out. And as they say, failing to plan is planning to fail.

Plan for everthing

2) Sheldon Cooper: Alright, he is a different kind of genius. Well you know what I mean. He blew us out with his sharp witted mind. He is a brainiac. Solving physics problems and playing halo video games are his brain food. He is one genius and perfectionist in his own way. He always thinks outside the box and presents his argument in an interesting manner.

Presentation tip from Sheldon Cooper: Be imaginative like him. Don’t settle for normal designs. Don’t be stuck with the default white slides. Think of some creative ideas to present your presentation. Yes, you can go beyond PowerPoint, crack mean jokes about the stupidity of others, present a comedy show or anything “out of the box”.

3) Monica Geller: She is also known as a neat freak from Friends. Keeping everything at its place and clean were one of her things. If anything even moves an inch, it would freak her out.

Presentation tip from Monica Geller: Keep your slides neat and clean. Everything you put should be visible to the audience. Don’t put everything on the slides. Keep text minimal. Add images. Always remember less is more.

4) Walter White: Want to dominate your client and audience? Learn from Mr. Walter White. Walter White “The bad guy” from Breaking Bad explains pretty well that an exceptional and unique product can capture any market. You just have to be different from your competitors.

Presentation tip from Walter White: Even if you have the same product as that of your competitor, present it differently. Think of an idea which explains your product well, use amazing background slides, incorporate data charts and showcase it in style. Make your presentation unique.

5) Raymond Reddington: Raymond “Red” Reddington, man from the Blacklist. Well I have watched couple of its episodes and I definitely had to include him in the list because of his skills of telling a story. He is dramatic and expressive. He recreates every scene and totally engages his audience. He emphasizes every word.

Presentation tip from Raymond Reddington: Tell a story to rule your audience. Try to begin your conversation with telling a story about yourself or in general. This is the best way to keep your audience glued to their seat.

Tell your story

6) Tyrion Lannister: There is a lot to learn from Tyrion Lannister. He is a dwarf and imp. He is often rejected by other people because he is half of a man. Yet he survives and comes this far. He owns his weaknesses, wears it like an armor and plays to his strengths.

Presentation tip from Tyrion Lannister: Know your weaknesses. Know where you can possibly go wrong and work on those. Now we know what might go wrong especially if you are beginner. So this will surely help you. Avoid these common pitfalls. More importantly, know your strengths and exploit them to your advantage. Do you have a funny bone? Or any other asset. Use it in your presentation.

7) Gloria Pritchett: One of the beloved characters from the TV world is Gloria Pritchett from Modern Family. She is sexy and she flaunts it. She makes sure that she is heard (and noticed!). Well of course, she is loud. But at times, she says it all with her actions and expressions. Browse the episodes. You will know what we want to say.

One more word to go in your vocab list. You’re welcome. 🙂 However, make sure you literally use this particular one in your life especially while giving presentations. It helps.

8) Chandler Bing: Another character from Friends that can teach us something valuable about presenting PowerPoint presentations is about adding a little humor. You don’t have to have an amazing sense of humor like Chandler to crack jokes. Just be witty at times.

Presentation tip from Chandler Bing: Go casual while giving your presentation. Add little humor to keep the environment light.

9) Harvey Specter: Suits is one of the most entertaining shows we have. Show is definitely thrilling and keeps you hooked. Also, it makes you smart just like Harvey Specter (once you start thinking like him). He tells you to be a risk taker. He teaches you to be responsible and much more. One thing that we would like you to learn from him is to keep calm even in tough situations. Keep your composure no matter how bad the situation is.

Presentation tip from Harvey Specter: Stay calm even if you mess up. Something goes wrong with the slides or any technical error occurs, just smile. It will disappear the tension. Go casual about it. Keep talking. Be it anything. Fill the gap.

10) Barney Stinson: Last but not the least, we have Barney Stinson. We all know how awesome he is. Let’s not get into the details here, just inhale one of its quality.

Look good.

Presentation tip from Barney Stinson: Suit up. That's right. How people perceive you is very important. The way you present yourself to your clients, teammates, your audience audience has got everything to do with whether or not they choose you. So always always look good. Suit up and deliver a Legen-Wait for It-Dary speech.
