Across Marvel universes, uncle Ben/aunt May are often heard telling Peter Parker, “With great powers comes great responsibility.” This is true in our universe as well.

On September 25th, 2015, 193 members of the United Nations (UN) pledged to use Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) to end global challenges like eliminating hunger and others by 2030.

These challenges included eradicating hunger, fighting climate change, creating growth opportunities, equity, better health, education, quality of life, etc. The UN countries adopt 17 SDGs in total.

Global corporations like Apple, Cisco, Amazon, Elieen Fisher, etc., are making an outstanding contribution to this field. These concerted efforts of global organizations to protect human and natural resources using their profits are termed Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).  This is a way for corporations to give back to society and nature.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1.What is a CSR training program?

A corporate social responsibility (CSR) training program is a course designed to teach organizations about the principle, policies, methods, and practical strategies required to continue the meet the business with sustainable development goals. It also teaches the participants about best practices for CSR.

2. What are the 4 types of CSR?

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs are divided into 4 broad categories:

  1. Environmental CSR.
  2. Philanthropic CSR.
  3. Ethical CSR.
  4. Economic CSR.

 3. What are the 5 stages of CSR?

Corporates adopt social responsibility programs in 5 stages. These can be divided into:

  1. Compliance-based approach: Companies are introduced to the concept of CSR and they start following government rules and regulations to save themselves from legal issues.
  2. Recognition of consumer needs: At this stage, organizations set objectives for CSR programs based on audience needs. Stakeholders and management are involved.
  3. Achieving new heights: Companies start understanding CSR. Do R&D about resources and infrastructure required. Set process, guidelines, and policies to run, monitor, and upgrade programs with time.
  4. CSR Integration: Organizations reached a stage where they start incorporating initiatives into their DNA. The whole organization, from top management to the bottom line of business involved in initiatives and training programs. New technologies, products, services, and ventures (internal and external)are formed.
  5. Setting Examples: At this stage, organizations practicing CSR become leaders for social welfare in their industry. They set the example of a sustainable business approach and motivate others to adopt CSR and develop society.

4. What is CSR and its models?

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) can be considered a business model in which organizations drive profits by working towards improving society. It provides mutual benefits to society and brand image. CSR programs are a morale booster dose for workplaces.

  1. Carroll’s pyramid CSR model: It is formally known as the model of Carroll’s four-part pyramidIt shows CSR responsibilities as four blocks of the pyramid. The pyramid is used to show the CSR of a business in the order of decreasing importance. The most basic Economic CSR forms the base of the pyramid. Next are the legal responsibilities, followed by ethical responsibilities in the hierarchy. The top block of the pyramid and least in priority is philanthropic CSR. This model fails to show a relationship between 4 types of CSR.
  2. Intersecting Circle (IC) CSR model: This model is very similar Venn diagram of CSR. It shows the possibilities of a relationship between different CSR. It rejects the hierarchical model and shows that CSR responsibilities are in dynamic interplay with each other. The core concept of this model is no responsibility is more important than others.
  3. Concentric Circle CSR model: This is also known as the CON model of CSR. It shares a similarity with Carroll’s pyramid model as it shows economic CSR as a core responsibility. It also stresses the interrelationship between the four types of CSR, similar to the CON model. However, it shows that non-economic CSRs envelope the economic CSR and make it a core responsibility. This model represents the model of inclusion rather than mutual and exclusive domains.
  4. Contemporary innovative CSR models: These are the models by which organizations came up with their innovations. Companies can adopt one or more responsibilities and turn them into their core CSR value. For example, Coca-Cola adopts the 5*20 Program CSR model that aims to employ 5 million women in developing countries by the year 2020 in their bottling and distribution roles.
