They can also make the payment online.

 

The Flow tab App is synched with the bar's POS (Point of Sale) terminal to efficiently process the order with no delays.

 

The Story Behind Developing the Flowtab App

 

Flowtab was first conceptualized as a solution to a problem that struck a chord with the future founder's Mike Townsend mind at 2:00 Am in Coloft — A Los Angeles Coworking space.

It all started with observing how troublesome it is getting drinks at crowded bars. People often wait in lines for an hour to get a $10 drink, and once they finally do, it is nearly impossible to flag down a bartender to get another.

 

With this in mind, Townsend drafted the mockup of a bar & nightclub drink ordering App and termed it Appletini.

 

But, later, the name was changed to the Flow tab.

 

After tinkering with the concept for a few weeks, Townsend discovered that people didn't just want to pay for a drink ahead of time; they wanted to be able to pre-pay for a group.

 

Flowtab was born as an iPhone and Android app. However, the App is only one part of the concept. He soon discovered that he had to tie up with bars and nightclubs to expand the App's reach.

 

The idea behind Flowtab is simple; if bars buy into this concept, they can ensure that people will spend more money when they go out.

 

On the flip side, their guests won't have to worry about not getting their drink on time.

The Success of the Flowtab App

 

The Flow tab application released on the iPhone and Android Market in 2011 quickly rose to become one of the most popular applications with a user base of 5,000.

 

This App has been successful due to its ease of use and the fact that it is free.

 

It allows users to pay their drinks bill without waiting for the bill or worrying about carrying cash or a credit card.

 

Flowtab has gained dominant ground in San Francisco, with over 500 users in the first few weeks.

 

It has partnered with many bars in the area, including Gordon Biersch, Madrone Art Bar, and The 500 Club branches.

Flowtab partnered with a company called Boxed.com, which is a startup from the Y-Combinator incubator program. Boxed delivers groceries to customers, and Flowtab will now allow Boxed customers to pay for their groceries from within the App.
